Boldly Claim His Promises

I recently read through Hebrews, and this seemed to stand out:

Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. (Heb. 4:1)

Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. (Heb 4:16)

It is easy to understand that God blesses us by His promises to us. What I have come to finally understand is that there is much more to God's promises than that.

In the Garden of Eden, satan said, in effect, "God is a liar and you don't need Him. You can figure it all out yourself." I find it all to easy to fall into satan's trap, trying again and again to figure it out myself, only to wander around for awhile until I end up in frustration and despair. But, when we claim, by faith, one of God's promises to us, we reverse the decision made in the Garden of Eden. Every time one of God's promises is fulfilled, it shows that God's word is true and satan is the liar. God can say, "See, My children trust me because My word is True!" For this reason, God wants us to claim His promises and not leave them lying around unused. Not only are we blessed with His grace in our time of need, but every promise fulfilled in us is a slap in the face to satan.

We don't need to hesitate or be timid about it either. We are washed clean and made presentable by the blood of Jesus. Jesus is our advocate with the Father, who sits at His right hand, and will intercede for us. We are to "bodly" come to the Father, present to Him a promise He has made to us, asking that His word be proven true so that His Glory and Power will be manifested through us.

I pray that we all boldly claim His promises and find rest in Him today.
